He Will Rejoice Over You

Everybody likes  to hear  about God’s love  —  and that is good  as we go through trials  and long  for God’s comfort  —  trusting  in His love.     We need reminders  of God’s sacrificial love  and forgiveness  to encourage us  during hard times.     That is why Zephaniah 3:17 says,

The LORD your God is  in your midst,
A victorious warrior.
He will  exult over you  with joy,
He will  be quiet  in His love,
He will rejoice  over you  with shouts of joy.

But,  before giving this wonderful promise,  Zephaniah spoke God’s harsh judgments  against Judah  and the surrounding countries.     Judah’s religious leaders  were arrogantly  leading the people  in all sorts  of heathen traditions  and the people were living  in all sorts  of violence  and deceit.     Such shameful practices surely  earned God’s punishment  —  especially since those people  would not listen  to God’s prophets.

The people’s punishment  was earned  and assured  —  but,  God loves us  even when  He has to punish us  for our sins.     That is why  God promised  His  “love”  and  “joy”  when the people  would start living rightly again.

People don’t like  to hear  about their sinful ways.     They don’t want  to feel guilty  over anything they’ve done.     Instead,  they defiantly defend  their sins  as being justified.     Such stubbornness  will bring God’s judgment.     Whenever  and however  that judgment comes,  one needs  to remember  that God  loves us  and is desiring  that we learn our lesson  to stop being evil.

The bottom line  is that everyone needs  to pay attention  to all  of God’s ways  for us to live.     All of God’s warnings  and guidance  is contained  in His word  —  the Bible.     We need  to love studying  God’s directions  for right living  —  just as much  as we love  to hear  how much He loves us.

Thankful for our Creator Redeemer’s faithful love,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  let us rejoice  in Your goodness  and guidance.”

Love,
Margaret
