A Great and High Wall with Twelve Gates

A Great and High Wall with Twelve Gates

The above picture  and captions  is being shared  on the Internet  a lot right now  because of the tongue-in-cheek truth  it contains.     It’s something  to think about.

God’s word contains  a number  of descriptions  of heaven  describing  a “high wall”  and  “gates”.     One is in Revelation 21:12,

Also  she had  a great  and high wall  with twelve gates,  and twelve angels  at the gates,  and names written on them,  which are the names  of the twelve tribes  of the children  of Israel.

The “great and high wall”  keeps out  all that is evil.     This division  between heaven  and hell  is also described  as a “chasm”  in Luke 16:26  with the parable  about the rich man  in hell  wanting poor Lazarus  in heaven  to give him  some water.     Abraham said  it was not possible  because,

Between us  and you  there is a great chasm fixed,  so that those  who wish  to come over  from here to you  will not be able,  and that none  may cross over  from there  to us.

These truths are why  Jesus emphasized  the importance  of using that “small”  and  “narrow”  “gate”  of faith  to get into heaven.     In  Matthew 7:13-14  Jesus says,

Enter through the narrow gate;  for the gate is wide  and the way is broad  that leads  to destruction,  and there are many  who enter through it.     For the gate is small  and the way is narrow  that leads  to life,  and there are few  who find it.

The  “narrow gate”  is believing  in Christ  as our Savior  because Jesus says  in Mark 16:16,

He who believes  and is baptized  will be saved;  but he who does not believe  will be condemned.

That is “extreme vetting“.     It is necessary  and good.     So,  Revelation 21:4 promises,

He will wipe away  every tear  from their eyes;  and there will  no longer be  any death;  there will  no longer be  any mourning,  or crying,  or pain;  the first things have passed away.

In peace,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  Your way is glorious!”

A Christian devotional  to glorify  the LORD of lords  and GOD of gods.

Pray for our country.
