A Factious Man

It seems these days  that there are a lot  of “factious” people  fighting  for what they loudly  and violently claim  is right  —  but unable  to honestly describe  what it is  that they are upset about.     Some  just like to be   in the midst  of the excitement  of an activity  and be a part  of a group  that seems to have a purpose  —  though they’re not truly clear  on what that purpose is.     They’re sure someone  in their group  knows their purpose.

They are unable  to state  the actual facts  of the matter  —  and have a whole lot  of misinformation.     They don’t seem  to care  about the truth  of the matter,  but want to vent  some sort  of confused feelings.     And,  they definitely  don’t want  to be rejected  by their peers.     For acceptance in their group,  they will loudly shout  hateful slanders  and wreck someone else’s property.

God’s word  has something to say  about this behavior  in Titus 3:9-11,

But avoid  foolish controversies  and genealogies  and strife  and disputes  about the Law,  for they are unprofitable  and worthless.     Reject  a factious man  after a first  and second warning,  knowing  that such a man  is perverted  and is sinning,  being self-condemned.

Yes,  Titus was referring  to divisions  and unreasonable arguments  in the church.     But,  the same kind  of unreasonable,  “factious” arguments  take place  in governments,  political parties,  clubs,  gangs,  and cliques  of various sorts.     The problem with  “factious”  arguments  is that they are built  on lies,  slanders,  and misinformation  of all sorts.     God’s children  are often warned against  taking part  in such ungodliness.

James 3:17  tells us,

The wisdom  from above  is first pure,  then peaceable,  gentle,  reasonable,  full of mercy  and good fruits,  unwavering,  without hypocrisy.

There is a lot  to consider  regarding our daily lives  in that verse.

Ever glad  that God’s word leads us,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for teaching us  Your righteousness  in Your word.”

Love,
Margaret
