Though Our Outer Man Is Decaying

All sorts  of life  in this world  goes through the process  of having a beginning,  a time of growth,  and an ending.     In that lifetime  we all experience hardships  of many sorts.     Everything from sicknesses,  to accidents,  to just plain ol’ aging  takes place.     As a faithful believer,  who suffered much  for his faith  in our Savior,  Paul said this  about his life  of faith  in 2 Corinthians 4:7-10,

But we have this treasure  in earthen vessels,  so that the surpassing greatness  of the power  will be of God  and not from ourselves;  we are afflicted  in every way,  but not crushed;  perplexed,  but not despairing;  persecuted, but not forsaken;  struck down,  but not destroyed;  always carrying about  in the body  the dying of Jesus,  so that the life of Jesus also  may be manifested  in our body.

It is God Almighty,  who keeps us  throughout our lives,  so we don’t despair  over any  of our hardships.     We are  in God’s care  —  so we are not ashamed  of the gospel  when others mock  and despise it.     Even as we get old  and worn,  our lives are to be lives  of faith,  hope,  and love  —  knowing that God is  in control.     Our lives are  to be a witness  of God’s love  in every situation  we have to face,  so that God will be glorified.

As we face life’s problems,  we say with Paul,  in 2 Corinthians 4:16-18,

Therefore  we do not lose heart,  but though our outer man  is decaying,  yet our inner man  is being renewed  day by day.     For momentary,  light affliction  is producing for us  an eternal weight  of glory  far beyond  all comparison,  while we look not  at the things  which are seen,  but at the things  which are not seen;  for the things  which are seen  are temporal,  but the things  which are not seen  are eternal.

Knowing this,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for Your faithfulness.”

Love,
Margaret
