Before the Mountains Were Born

Before the Mountains Were Born

Psalm 90  is a prayer of Moses,  the man of God.     In this psalm  Moses compares  the short life  of a man  to God’s eternalness.     In verses 1-2  Moses wrote,

LORD,  You have been  our dwelling place  in all generations.
Before the mountains were born
Or  You gave birth  to the earth  and the world,
Even from  everlasting to everlasting,  You are God.

Moses is saying  God has always existed.     He is without beginning  and without end.     God existed before there was time  and He exists  through all time  and beyond all time.     Everything else  has been created  in a time frame  and has a beginning,  but,  only God  is without a beginning.

And so,  He will always be  LORD of lords,  God of gods,  and King of kings.

Because God is eternal  and we are  His beloved creation,  God will always be  our “dwelling place  in all generations”.     No matter what generation of people  one was born in,  God is their only real place  of refuge  and their hiding place.     All people  can go  to the LORD  for help  and refuge.     When we honor the LORD  by trusting  in Him alone,  He will always be  the refuge we need  in times of trouble.

That should be  of great comfort  as we face  our daily challenges,  because our Creator  dearly loves us  and wants  to help us.     As John says  in 1 John 4:16,

We have come to know  and have believed  the love  which God has  for us.     God is love,  and the one  who abides  in love  abides in God,  and God abides  in him.

Because God is our Creator  and loves us,  we can know  for sure  that He will always be  our refuge.     He alone  is the dependable place  we can go  for help  and He is always near,  where ever we might be.     From all eternity  God has not changed.

That is why  Hebrews 13:8-9 says,

Jesus Christ is  the same yesterday  and today  and forever.     Do not be carried away  by varied  and strange teachings;  for it is good  for the heart  to be strengthened  by grace.

Because God is  the one and only  eternal LORD of lords,  it is wise  on our part  to not let the world  influence us  with its “varied  and strange teachings”.     Because God is eternal,  we can depend  on Him  to strengthen us  with His grace  —  so we won’t cave in  to false teachings  —  but always  lovingly stay strong  in God’s truth.

Then  as we rest  in God,  our Refuge,  we will gladly say,  “Hallelujah!     We can always find peace  and safety  with our LORD.”

A Christian devotional  to glorify  the LORD of lords  and GOD of gods.

Pray for our country.
