Do Not Fret
Do Not Fret
We “fret” when things don’t go the way we think they should go. It doesn’t seem to matter what we are anxious about. It could be about pushy drivers in heavy traffic, waiting for someone who’s always late, or seeing dishonest people get away with their wrong doing. It can be really frustrating to see the wicked go scot free, when their crimes are so obvious.
Psalm 37:7-8 deals with those fretful feelings of ours, and says,
Rest in the LORD and wait patiently for Him;
Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way,
Because of the man who carries out wicked schemes.
Cease from anger and forsake wrath;
Do not fret; it leads only to evildoing.
For evildoers will be cut off,
But those who wait for the LORD, they will inherit the land.
Since God’s word in the Bible is for our learning and growth in faith, we need to humbly pay close attention and remember what God wants us to do in every fretful occasion. We don’t just “chill”, as the young folk say. Much rather, we “rest in the LORD”. To “chill” is something of our own efforts and does not include faith, hope, or love. But, to “rest in the LORD” is to lay everything in God’s almighty hands. After all, He is in control and knows exactly what our situation is — better than we do. He wants us to trust Him always — through thick and thin.
We certainly don’t want our fretting to lead “only to evildoing”, causing us to “be cut off”. But we do want to “inherit” our home with “the LORD”. How wonderful that will be!
Resting in our LORD and Savior, we say, “Hallelujah! LORD, thank You for faithfully watching over us with a saving love.”
A Christian devotional to glorify the LORD of lords and GOD of gods.
Pray for our country.
The LORD made this day, let us rejoice and be glad in Him.
The word of the LORD is tried;
He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him.
Sing for joy in the LORD, O you righteous ones;
Praise is becoming to the upright.
How blessed are those who dwell in Thy house!
They are ever praising Thee.
Just as a father has compassion on his children,
So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him.
O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good;
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Glory in His holy name;
Let the heart of those who seek the LORD be glad.
Not that I have already obtained it, or have already become perfect, but I press on in order that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.
