Wherever the Corpse Is

Wherever the Corpse Is

Jesus’ teachings  are often very graphic,  because He wants us  to get His point  —  and remember it,  so that  it does us  some good.    Therefore,  when Jesus taught  about the tribulations  and dangers  to take place  in the last days,  He gave these warnings  in Matthew 24:21-28,

For then  there will be  a great tribulation,  such as has not occurred  since the beginning  of the world  until now,  nor ever will.      Unless those days  had been cut short,  no life  would have been saved;  but for the sake  of the elect  those days  will be cut short.

Then  if anyone says  to you,  ‘Behold, here is the Christ,’  or  ‘There He is,’  do not believe him.     For false Christs  and false prophets  will arise  and will show  great signs  and wonders,  so as to mislead,  if possible,  even the elect.

Behold,  I have told you  in advance.     So  if they say  to you,  ‘Behold,  He is in the wilderness,’  do not go out,  or,  ‘Behold,  He is in the inner rooms,’  do not believe them.     For just as  the lightning comes  from the east  and flashes  even to the west,  so will the coming  of the Son of Man be.

Wherever the corpse is,  there  the vultures  will gather.

In a number of places,  Jesus taught about the coldness  of people’s hearts  in the end days.     In other words,  most people would be unbelievers  —  rejecting the Savior.     That hidden unbelief  will be  in the general people  —  and in those  who claim  to be God’s “prophets”  or preachers.

In order  to gain popularity,  the “false prophets”  will be making claims  of all sorts  —  and maybe even show “wonders”  of some sort,  so their followers  will give them  financial gain.     And,  on the other hand,  many who claim to be followers  of Christ Jesus  are actually  only looking  for benefits.     They too,  only want worldly gains.

In Jesus’ example,  “the corpse”  is those with a dead faith  —  no faith.     “The vultures”  are the “false prophets”  looking for a meal.     Jesus warns us  to stay away  from all  of their unfaithful desires  and claims.

Heeding God’s warnings,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for keeping us close  to You  in Your word.”

Love,
Margaret
