Remove the False Way From Me

Remove the False Way From Me

In many different ways,  the whole Bible warns us  about all sorts  of deceptions,  lies,  and “false” ways.     The world is filled  with falsehoods  of every sort.     There is corruption in government,  falsehoods in all sorts of religions,  “false” doctrines  in some  who claim  to be Christian,  the lies   about how wonderful  it is  to live  according to the world  —  and the list goes on.

When the writer of Psalm 119  thought about all of his challenges  in being confronted  day after day  with falsehoods  of every sort,  he wrote in Psalm 119:25-32,

My soul cleaves to the dust;
Revive me according to Your word.

I have told of my ways, and You have answered me;
Teach me Your statutes.

Make me understand the way of Your precepts,
So I will meditate on Your wonders.

My soul weeps because of grief;
Strengthen me according to Your word.

Remove the false way from me,
And graciously grant me Your law.

I have chosen the faithful way;
I have placed Your ordinances before me.

I cling to Your testimonies;
O LORD, do not put me to shame!

I shall run the way of Your commandments,
For You will enlarge my heart.

His concerns were not really any different from ours.     We see the domineering ways  of false religions  —  the glorification of loose morals  —  the temptations of riches,  etc.     The psalmist was sad  in many ways,  and especially because of his inclination  to possibly do wrong.     More than anything,  he did not want  to do wrong,  so  he fervently prayed,  Remove the false way  from me,  and graciously grant me  Your law.”

In different words,  that same prayer request  is seen throughout the Bible.     We,  too,  need to  “have chosen the faithful way”.     In these hard times,  we need to  “cling to Your testimonies”.      Certainly,  we do not  want God to  “put me to shame”  on Judgment Day.

So,  we need  to pray  and obey today.     Knowing  the blessedness  of God’s love  and forgiveness,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for Your protective love.”

Love,
Margaret
