Therefore Humble Yourselves

We’re no different  than the people  of thousands  of years ago.     An inner pride  and feeling of independence  leads people  to want  to feel  better than others  —  in authority  —  leader of the pack,  the boss,  or whatever.     So,  the apostle Peter  instructed church leaders  to remember  how Christ Jesus,  who is God Almighty in the flesh,   humbled Himself  to suffer and die  —  to save sinners  like us.     With Jesus  as our example,  we all need  to be humble  amongst each other.

Nobody needs to “lord” it over others,  because we’re all sinners  in the same boat.     Therefore,  we recognize Jesus as our Lord,  King,  and Redeemer.     He is the one we are  to humbly serve.     And we serve Jesus  when we serve one another.     That’s what Jesus wants us  to do.

And though we can’t honestly  make any claims  to glory  —  yet,  God has promised  all of His faithful children  “the unfading crown of glory”.     (1 Peter 5:4)     Remembering Christ,  we get rid  of our sense  of pride,  because  “God is opposed  to the proud,  but gives grace  to the humble”   (1 Peter 5:5),  and we must all accept  the Lordship  of Christ,  if we want  to be saved.

Always remembering who we are  in God’s eyes,  Peter reminds us  in 1 Peter 5:6-7,

Therefore humble yourselves  under the mighty hand  of God,  that He may exalt you  at the proper time,  casting all your anxiety  on Him,  because He cares  for you.

God loves us  when we remember  that we are His beloved creation  —  and we remember all the reasons why it is good to serve Him  in faith,  hope,  and love.

Ever glad  to be a child  of God,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  thank You  for stooping down  to save us,  so that we may live for you  in Your glory.”

Love,
Margaret
