By This We Know That We Are In Him

Some Christians  might have a tendency  to judge others by how much money they contribute to the church  —  how many activities  they take part in  —  how well educated they are,  etc.     Much rather,  each Christian needs  to look within himself  and examine  his own behavior  in the light  of God’s word.

We each have enough  of a challenge  taking care  of our own weaknesses  —  instead of looking  at someone else’s  supposed weaknesses.     This is why 1 John 2:5-6  tells us,

Whoever keeps  His word,  in him  the love  of God  has truly been perfected.      By this we know  that we are  in Him:  the one who says  he abides  in Him  ought himself  to walk  in the same manner  as He walked.

Each one  of us needs  to look  at our whole lives  to see  if we are honestly keeping  “His word”.     If we keep God’s word perfectly,  then  we know  “the love  of God  has truly  been perfected”  in our life.     But  if we’re honest,  we know  “the love  of God”  does not always  lead us  to “keep His word”.

We each need  to study God’s word  in order  to know it rightly.     God’s word is not  the traditions,  customs,  rituals,  and rules  that various churches make.      God’s word reveals  His love  for each  of us  and the gift  of eternal salvation  He freely gives  to all who believe  in Christ Jesus.

God’s gift  of love  in Christ  is what leads us  to love others  —  to want  to learn  about how God shows  His love  to us  —   to want to persevere  in the true faith  —  to want  to have self-control  and godliness.     These are all life-long challenges  that we each need  to tend to in our own lives.

Wanting  to abide  in Christ,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for guiding us  in Your word,  so that we may glorify  Your love  in our lives.”

Love,
Margaret
