Rocks and Sand

Rocks and Sand

There are certain things  in life  that we simply  cannot afford  to get wrong.     They are life  and death situations  —  like trying to drive  100 mph  on a winding mountain,  dirt road.     It doesn’t even  make any sense  to try it.

The same goes  for our spiritual lives.     We simply cannot  worship anything  other than the LORD God Almighty  and yet expect  to receive eternal life.     People nonchalantly  and arrogantly  ignore this truth  and worship  actual idols,  money,  popularity,  power over others,  technology  —  you name it.     None  of these things  is able  to give us  eternal life  —  instead,  loving them  above our Savior  leads only  to eternal death.

To demonstrate  people’s foolishness,  Jesus spoke a parable  in Matthew 7:24-27,

Therefore everyone  who hears these words  of Mine  and acts  on them,  may be compared  to a wise man  who built his house  on the rock.     And the rain fell,  and the floods came,  and the winds blew  and slammed against  that house;  and yet it did not fall,  for it had been founded  on the rock.

Everyone who hears  these words  of Mine  and does not act  on them,  will be like  a foolish man  who built his house  on the sand.     The rain fell,  and the floods came,  and the winds blew  and slammed  against that house;  and it fell  —  and great  was its fall

Many other Bible passages  show us  that Jesus is the Rock  —  the strong foundation  —  we need  to build our faith upon.     How do we know  for sure?     Many details  about Jesus’  birth,  ministry,  suffering,  death,  and resurrection  were prophesied  and recorded  throughout the Old Testament.     Jesus’  dependability is proven  in those prophecies.

In spite  of this historical proof,  people foolishly  follow false doctrines,  cults,  money,  intelligence,  idols, etc.     They are creating their own doom.     These things  have all been proven  untrustworthy  —  but,  some people cling  to them anyway.     They don’t care  that they are being foolish.

In awe  of Jesus’  faithful love,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  thank You  for keeping us safely founded  on the truly solid Rock.”

Love,
Margaret
