Do Not Let Your Heart Be Troubled

Do Not Let Your Heart Be Troubled

We can easily get  “troubled”  by all sorts  of things  in this world  —  whether it be a tragedy,  daily needs,  a political situation,  a concern  about our future,  or whatever.     Jesus’ disciples  were alarmed  —  really  “troubled”  —  when He said He would be  leaving them.     What were they to do  after having followed Him  for three whole years?      Were three whole years  of their lives gone  for nothing?

In comfort,  Jesus said  in John 14:1-4,

Do not let your heart  be troubled;  believe in God,  believe also in Me.      In My Father’s house  are many dwelling places;  if it were not so,  I would have told you;  for I go  to prepare a place  for you.      If I go and prepare a place for you,  I will come again  and receive you  to Myself,  that where I am,  there you may be also.      And you know the way where I am going.”

Really?      “We”  know the way  where Jesus  is going?     Our  “troubled” minds ask,  right along with the account  of the apostle Thomas,  in John 14:5-6,

“Lord,  we do not know  where You are going,  how do we  know the way?”

Jesus said to him,  “I am the way,  and the truth,  and the life;  no one comes  to the Father  but through Me.”

This is a new way  to realize  the reality  of our lives.     We don’t just go  through this life  affected by all the sins  and problems  of this world.     We live  by faith  in our resurrected LORD  and Savior,  who has cleansed us  of all our sins.     The “truth,  and the life”  that we need  to realize  is that  only Jesus  is “the way”  to eternal life.

Jesus  has an eternal home  prepared for all  who  “believe”  in Him.    Everything that happens  on earth  is a temporary test  of faith.     Resting  in the power  of Jesus’ resurrection,  we do not let  our hearts  “be troubled”.

Following  “the way,  and the truth,  and the life”  we reach  our heavenly home,  and say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  Your love  and faithfulness  are amazing.”

Love,
Margaret
