That They May Know You

In Jesus’ last hours  on this earth,  He prayed  to our heavenly Father,  in John 17:3,

This is eternal life,  that they may know You,  the only true God,  and Jesus Christ  whom You  have sent.

We can’t afford  to gloss  over this.     This is about our “eternal life”.     We either have it  —  or we don’t.

There are even those  who claim  to be Christians,  who don’t honestly “know” God Almighty  as their heavenly Father.     They might have  in the back of their mind  —  well, this going-to-church stuff  is good  for my business  —  well,  at least this church stuff keeps me  in line,  so I won’t sin  quite so much  —  the church activities are good  for my kids  and I don’t want them  to be a problem  to me,  etc., etc.

As Christ Jesus prayed,  “eternal life”  means knowing  “the only true God,  and Jesus Christ”.     What’s there to “know”?     We must “know” that there absolutely is no other god  —  whether it be an idol,  cult,  philosophy,  riches,  success,  or whatever.

We must “know”  that we  really are wretched sinners headed  for eternal hell  —  and that our Creator  is also our Redeemer Savior  through faith  in the shed blood  of Christ Jesus alone.

We must “know”  the meaning  of God Almighty’s humble love  for us  in sending His Son  to pay for all our sins.

We must  “know”  that God forgives all  who trust  and believe  in Him alone.     It’s a full forgiveness  —  not a conditional,  “maybe”  sort of   forgiveness  based on our efforts  to be good.

We must  “know”  that Jesus  is God  in the flesh,  come down  to save us  in love.

If we don’t  “know”  and trust  God’s eternal love  in Christ Jesus,  we don’t really  “know” God.     That means we need  to diligently study up  by learning His word  in the Bible,  and letting Him teach us  His words  of truth.     Then, see the truth and let it set you free.

Knowing God,  we can’t help  but say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  surely,  You alone  are our salvation.”

Love,
Margaret
