That We Should Be Attracted to Him

God can hide things  in plain sight  so very well.     We might think we  “see”  and imagine we  “know”  —  and yet,  not perceive.     Many unbelievers claim  to have read the Bible  —  God’s very testimony  with ancient prophecies fulfilled  in Christ Jesus,  but they are unable  to discern  the truths  of God’s word.

Many  who wonder  about our Savior imagine  that He has  to look  like some movie star  or athletic star.     They have put blinders  on their own eyes.     Isaiah 53:1-2 simply tells us,

Who has believed our message?
And to whom  has the arm  of the LORD  been revealed?

For He grew up  before Him  like a tender shoot,
And like a root out  of parched ground;
He has no stately form   or majesty
That we should look  upon Him,
Nor appearance  that we should be attracted  to Him.

Although the Old Testament says  that Jesus would be born  in Bethlehem  and gives reference  to His home town  of Nazareth,  nobody gave that  a thought  as they listened  to Him preach God’s word  and do many miracles.     The people expected a “king”  as their Savior  —  but Jesus had  “no stately form  or majesty”.

Jesus’  “appearance”  did not attract anyone  to Him.     People seem to like  being associated  with the popular,  good-looking,  famous sort.     But,  that’s not what they saw  in Jesus.

So,  what are we looking for  in a Savior?     If we’re honestly looking for truth,  forgiveness,  salvation,  strength for living, and guidance,  we will find our Savior  in all  that the Bible reveals  about Him.     He won’t flaunt Himself  as some movie star  —  but He will show us  that He is the Almighty Creator  of all things  —  and that He truly is our Redeemer,  who sacrificially loves us dearly.

Knowing that we are undeserving  —  and yet so loved,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD Jesus,  Your majesty  is that  of our almighty,  eternal King!”

Love,
Margaret
