Our Griefs and Our Sorrows

Our Griefs and Our Sorrows

We all have  “griefs”  and  “sorrows”  that need comforting.     Some “griefs”  and “sorrows”  just never really go away.     Whatever the reason,  they persistently try  to be something  that lasts  throughout  our lives.     And yet  in all that,  Christians have  a great comfort.     Isaiah 53:4-5  shows us that,

Surely our griefs   He Himself bore,
And our sorrows  He carried;
Yet  we ourselves  esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten of God,  and afflicted.

But  He was pierced through  for our transgressions,
He was crushed  for our iniquities;
The chastening  for our well-being fell  upon Him,
And  by His scourging  we are healed.

When Jesus  suffered  and was crucified,  His suffering  and death  was a full payment  “for our iniquities”.     There’s no getting around it.     We are all sinners,  unworthy  of heaven.     But,  the payment  of Jesus’ suffering  and death  is keeping us  from  the eternal  “griefs”  and  “sorrows”  of hell.     That’s what  we want  to avoid.

Our sufferings here on earth  are for a relatively short time  compared to eternity.     And,  Jesus helps and strengthens us in our troubles here.     Romans 8:28  says,

And we know  that God causes  all things  to work together  for good  to those  who love God,  to those  who are called  according to His purpose.

In our troubles here,  we have Jesus’ comfort  and help.     His sacrificial love  for us  assures us  as Isaiah 40:11  says,

Like a shepherd  He will tend His flock,
In His arm  He will gather  the lambs
And carry them  in His bosom;
He will gently lead  the nursing ewes.

We might feel stressed out  —  like a lost lamb  —  but,  we are always  in God’s tender care.

Rejoicing  in Jesus’  faithful love,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  You always know  where we are.     Thank You  for keeping Your eyes  on us.”

Love,
Margaret
