We Ourselves Esteemed Him
We Ourselves Esteemed Him
How do you feel when someone despises all your hard work — considering it worthless? Many today consider Jesus’ life and work worthless. As they curl the lip at the thought of Christ Jesus, they defiantly go about living in the grossness of their favorite sins and false doctrines, because they don’t believe the Bible speaks truth. As Jesus prophesied in Matthew 23:12,
Because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will grow cold.
We see it all around us today as people arrogantly lie, steal, commit all sorts of treacherous acts, and promote false doctrines. Some might even claim to be Christian as they secretly despise Jesus, but Jesus says to them in Revelation 3:15-16,
I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot. So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth.
Jesus will forcefully “spit” them out on Judgment Day because they have been deceitful in their so-called faith. In all this, every Christian needs to consider how the world has affected their own personal faith. We think of how Isaiah 53:4 specifically says,
Surely our griefs He Himself bore,
And our sorrows He carried;
Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten of God, and afflicted.
Just what do we honestly think about Jesus? Is our heart pretending to honor Him? Deep down, do we think He was “smitten of God, and afflicted”? In other words, do we think He deserved to be crucified — but yet, we want to make out like He’s our Savior, because it’s good for our self-image?
We have a lot to keep in mind as the world continuously presses its multitudinous evils upon us. May we always truly know that Jesus “bore” “our griefs” and “sorrows” in a humble love that transcends our wildest imaginations.
In awe of God’s love for us wretched sinners, we say, “Hallelujah! LORD Jesus, blessed be Your name!”
A Christian devotional to glorify the LORD of lords and GOD of gods.
Pray for our country.
The LORD made this day, let us rejoice and be glad in Him.
The word of the LORD is tried;
He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him.
Sing for joy in the LORD, O you righteous ones;
Praise is becoming to the upright.
How blessed are those who dwell in Thy house!
They are ever praising Thee.
Just as a father has compassion on his children,
So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him.
O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good;
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Glory in His holy name;
Let the heart of those who seek the LORD be glad.
Not that I have already obtained it, or have already become perfect, but I press on in order that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.
