The Vultures

During Jesus’ last week  of teaching  the people,  He warned  about the tribulations  of the last days.     He prophesied  the hatred  of the world  towards Christians  and God’s true gospel  —  and history shows  that His words  are true.     Ever since Jesus’ resurrection  there have been false teachers  and preachers  of the gospel  —  and Christians have suffered  various tribulations  and martyrdom.

Jesus does not want  His followers  believing  every false teacher  and preacher,  claiming some great spiritual experience  with Christ.     Jesus said  in Matthew 24:24-28,

For false Christs  and false prophets  will arise  and will show great signs  and wonders,  so as to mislead,  if possible,  even the elect.     Behold,  I have told you  in advance.     So if they say  to you,  ‘Behold,  He is in the wilderness,’  do not go out,  or,  ‘Behold,  He is in the inner rooms,’  do not believe them.     For just as  the lightning comes  from the east  and flashes even  to the west,  so will the coming  of the Son of Man be.     Wherever the corpse is,  there the vultures  will gather.

“The corpse”  is the person  whose faith is dead.     All they want  is the thrill  of doing something they consider  exciting and spiritual  —  like many  of the false religions.     In these last few years,  many false churches  have been popping up  all around the country.     Their preachers are just any “Joe”  off from the streets,  looking to make some money.     Basically, their church serves those  who want  to get together socially  for games  and fun times.

When people  don’t want  to seriously consider  Jesus’ sacrifice  that actually paid  for all their gross sins,  they don’t have  an honest faith.     They are  “the corpse”.     “Wherever the corpse is,  there the vultures  will gather.”     False preachers  see every opportunity  to make money.

So,  we listen  to our Savior’s warning,  and remember  that the truths  of His gospel only  are much more valuable  than the “interesting” and “fun” times  with “the vultures”.

Loving Jesus  for His faithfulness  in warning us,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  Your love is everlasting.”

Love,
Margaret
