O Lord, Who Could Stand?

O Lord, Who Could Stand?

In our lives,  we are busy,  busy,  busy.     We have lists of things  we want  to do,  and goals  to reach.     Sometimes there just aren’t enough hours  in the day.     In all this busyness,  there is no time  to think much  about God.     One might have a quick prayer  —  or hope  —  and then get on with  “more pressing matters”.

We just know  we haven’t gotten everything done  —  but are not sure  what has not been done.     What we haven’t done  is sort of unsettling,  if we could just figure out  what it is.

It’s that baggage load  of sins  we’ve been carrying along  day after day.     We can’t  hide it  from God.     We feel  we just don’t have time  to ask God  for forgiveness  —  but,  truthfully,  that’s just another way  of hoping  God will forget about them  and we really want  to be justified  by whatever good things  we imagine  we have done.

But,  we’re all going  to meet  our Creator Redeemer  on Judgment Day  and we won’t have  a valid reason  for not having asked  for forgiveness  each day  of our lives.     God already knows  our every sin  of thoughts,  words,  and deeds.     He just wants us  to confess them  and trust  in Jesus  for forgiveness.

We need  —  really need,  deep down  in our souls  —  to confess our sins  and believe  in the forgiveness  Jesus has earned  for us  on the cross.     We need  to get rid  of that nagging burden  that wears us down.     We need  to respect  God’s love  for us  in Christ  —  to “fear” God’s authority  enough  to show respect  every day.     So,  Psalm 130:3-4 says,

If You,  LORD,  should mark iniquities,
O Lord,  who could stand?
But  there is forgiveness  with You,
That  You may be feared.

As we respect  and “fear” God  by entrusting Him  with our burdens  of sin,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  we are foolish  when we purposely don’t confess our sins  to you.     Lead us  in the paths  of Your righteousness, which is faith  in Christ Jesus.”

Love,
Margaret
