The Testimony

If we’ve ever had  to sit  on a jury,  we soon learn  that there are those  who are determined  to give a false  “testimony”  in an effort  to protect  the perpetrator  of a crime.     As they are cross-examined,  their “testimony”  has claims  that conflict  with the given evidence.     Such false “testimony”  has to be discarded  to protect the innocent  and make a right judgment.

The whole Bible  is a “testimony”.     The Old Testament  has many prophecies  about a promised Savior  —  and those prophecies  were all fulfilled  in Christ Jesus.     That is piles  of proof  (evidence)  of a true “testimony”.     Since the Bible  is God’s “testimony”  to us  about our Savior,  we can be assured  that it is true,  because  of its detailed fulfillments.

God’s “testimony”  makes us “simple”,  doubting people  “wise”  about our salvation.     That is why  Psalm 19:7  says,

The law  of the LORD  is perfect,  restoring the soul;
The testimony  of the LORD  is sure,  making wise  the simple.

Because we have evidence  of fulfilled prophecies  in Christ,  we can be sure  that the rest  of God’s word  is also dependable.     God’s word regarding creation,  our sinful condition,  the moral standards we should live by,  and a Judgment Day  are all things  we can believe  because  of the overwhelming evidence  of God’s truthfulness.

What’s really awesome  is that realizing  that  “the law  of the LORD  is perfect”  is what restores  our  “soul”.     It is what sets us  in a right relationship  with our Creator Redeemer.     In our sinful condition,  we are  “simple”,  not sure about what is really good for us  —  not sure if God is who He says He is  —  not sure if we can be forgiven…….

All that doubt  is put to rest  as the testimony  of the LORD”  makes us “wise”  about how beloved  we are  —  and leads us to say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for Your word.     Help us  to see  its wonders.”

Love,
Margaret
