The Apple of the Eye

The Apple  of the Eye

As life presents  its problems  and we realize  how very helpless  we are,  we know  there’s really only one place  we can turn  —  and that is  to the LORD,  our Creator Redeemer.     King David often realized that  as he faced many enemies.     David prayed  in Psalm 17:7-8,

Wondrously show  Your lovingkindness,
O Savior  of those  who take refuge  at Your right hand
From those  who rise up  against them.

Keep me  as the apple of the eye;
Hide me  in the shadow  of Your wings.

We need  the comfort  of God’s love  and care  as we undergo our trials  on earth.     We just need  to be sure  that God really treasures  and loves us.     Just as someone eyes  the “apple”  they want  more than  the others,  we want God  to  “eye” us  as His beloved,  whom He  truly cares for.     That way  we can be assured  that God will carry us through  whatever problems  we are facing.

But,  we can’t be always ignoring God,   refusing  to pay attention  to His word  —  and then expect Him  to be at our beck and call  when we’re  in trouble.     David calls God  the  “Savior  of those  who take refuge  at Your right hand.”     We need  to always know  that God  is our  “Savior”  and  “refuge”.

With grateful,  trusting hearts  we go  to the LORD  for help.     Our job  is to believe  in God  at all times  —  not just when we’re  in trouble.      It’s as Jesus said  in John 6:29,

This is the work of God,  that you believe  in Him  whom He has sent.

As we keep believing,  we pray,  “Keep me  as the apple  of the eye,  and say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for being forever faithful  —  even when we get lost.”

Love,
Margaret
