A Good Tree

A Good Tree

We most certainly do need  to be aware  of those  who are “false prophets”  in this world.     But,  as we recognize  what makes them a “false prophet”,  we also need  to look  within ourselves.     Are we honestly living  according to God’s word  with a true faith,  hope,  and love?

Jesus taught us  in Matthew 7:15-20,

Beware of the false prophets,  who come to you  in sheep’s clothing,  but inwardly  are ravenous wolves.       You will know them  by their fruits.       Grapes are not gathered  from thorn bushes  nor figs  from thistles,  are they?       So every good tree bears  good fruit,  but the bad tree  bears bad fruit.       A good tree  cannot produce  bad fruit,  nor can a bad tree produce  good fruit.       Every tree  that does not bear good fruit  is cut down  and thrown  into the fire.       So then,  you will know them  by their fruits.

We will know  “false prophets”  ( i.e.  false Christians )  by their “fruit”  —  just as,  we should recognize ourselves  by our “fruit”.     Our “fruit”  has nothing to do with our wealth,  health,  popularity,  or worldly goods.     In God’s eyes,  our  “fruit”  is measured  by our faith,  hope,  and love.

When trials  and tribulations  come into our lives,  where do we put  our faith?     Do we hope  in mankind,  technology,  money,  and other worldly things?     And,  how about our love?     Do we honestly love the LORD  for all that He has done  for us  in Christ Jesus  and creation  —  and do we love God’s children  as we live together  in the true faith?

Our Creator Redeemer is looking  for “good fruit”  in our lives.     Has knowing  how very deeply God loves us  in Christ Jesus  led us   to live  more in accordance  with His word?     A pretentious Christianity  won’t do anyone  any good  on Judgment Day,  because God knows  our every thought,  word,  and deed.

Praising God  for the forgiveness  He freely gives  in Christ,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for leading us  in Your eternal word.”

Love,
Margaret
