Peddling the Word of God

Peddling the Word of God

We do need  to always be aware  that we live  in a very sinful world.     For all sorts  of motives,  some people will pretend  to have  our bests interests  at heart,  but  they are actually looking  for a way  to use people  for the gain  of money,  power,  and popularity.     They will make out  like they are preaching God’s word,  but really  their preaching points  to themselves  and their  “doctrines”,  that are actually contrary  to the word  of God.

God’s word  from beginning  to end  often warns us  of those preaching  false doctrines.     That is exactly why  it is so important  for God’s children  to learn  God’s word  by reading the Bible.     We need  to know  what is true  and what is false.     Our eternal life  depends on it.

When Paul  warns us  about false preachers  in 2 Corinthians 2:17,  he says  about God’s faithful preachers,

For we  are not  like many,  peddling the word  of God,  but as  from sincerity,  but as  from God,  we speak  in Christ  in the sight  of God.

Paul  and Jesus’ apostles  did not preach  their own ideas.     Rather,  they only preached  what was  “from God”,  according to what Christ Jesus taught.     All  of their preaching  was in accordance  with everything  throughout  the Bible.     That is why  their preaching  could be trusted  as being  “from God”.     Their preaching  showed the fulfillment  of all God’s promises  in Christ Jesus.     That is why  they could honestly say,  “we speak  in Christ”.     All  of their preaching  could be tested  by matching it up  with the rest  of God’s word.     But,  the “peddling”  of false preachers  sneakily leads people  to follow them  as a person.     False preachers  have no  honest regard  for having people  follow Jesus only.

When Paul  and Jesus’ apostles preached,  they did so  in all humbleness,  without looking  for any sort  of personal gain.     Instead of desiring personal popularity,  they preached Christ  as our Savior.     Everything they said pointed  to Jesus  as the one-and-only Savior  and our need  for Jesus.     Their preaching  turned the hearts  of the people  to God  and our Savior Jesus.     They were not trying  to con people  into any sort of legalism,  in order  to bind people  to any man-made rules.     They were not looking  to get rich  in any way.

They simply  and truly  worked hard  to serve God,  our Savior.     Why?     Because they fully realized  that their every thought,  motive,  and action  was  in the sight  of God”  —  the full  sight  of God.    They knew  and believed  that God Almighty is  not only our Creator,  but He is our Redeemer,  and Judge  for all eternity.     There isn’t anything  anyone  can hide  from God.     God Almighty  knows the hearts  of every preacher.     It takes  quite the audacity  for any preacher  to imagine  that he will get away  with his false doctrines.

False preaching reveals  a lack  of faith  and trust  in God.     So  we must  become grounded  in God’s word,  so we will not  fall prey  to false doctrines.

In the joy  of the purity  of God’s word,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  thank You  for making Your word eternal  by Your almighty authority  and power.”

Love,
Margaret
