He Reckoned It to Him

April 29, 2017

He Reckoned It to Him

“Reckoning”  is a marvelous concept.     To “reckon”  is to consider,  regard,  figure,  calculate,  balance,  settle,   judge  —  well,  we get the picture.     The bottom line is  that God Almighty,  our Creator Redeemer  reckons our beings.     He judges us all  —  He reckons us all  —  according to His standards.

We need  to think  about this  because there are many web sites  that claim  our only “righteousness”  is what we actually do  in our lives.     They will loudly tout Jesus  in John 15:14,

You are My friends  if you do  what I command you.

and  in Matthew 12:50,

For whoever does the will  of My Father  who is in heaven,  he is My brother  and sister  and mother.

That does not balance out  with the rest  of God’s word,  such as when Genesis 15:6  says  about Abraham’s faith  in the LORD,

Then he believed  in the LORD;  and He  reckoned it  to him  as righteousness.

God Almighty judged Abraham  to be totally righteous  because  of his faith  —  he believed  in the LORD.

Jesus commanded us  to “believe”.     That is how  we do  “the will”  of the “Father”.     There are many Bible verses  to back that up,  including:

Romans 4:5-6  +++  But  to the one  who does not work,  but believes in Him  who justifies the ungodly,  his faith  is credited  as righteousness,  just as David also speaks  of the blessing  on the man  to whom God credits righteousness  apart  from works.

2 Corinthians 5:21  +++  He made Him  who knew no sin  to be sin  on our behalf,  so that  we might become  the righteousness  of God  in Him.

2 Corinthians 11:15  +++   Therefore  it is not surprising  if his servants (the devil’s servants)  also  disguise themselves  as servants  of righteousness,  whose end  will be  according to their deeds.

Unbelievers  are judged  “according to their deeds”  —   believers are reckoned  to be righteous.    Paying attention  to all  of God’s words  is vital  to a true faith  in Christ alone  for our salvation.     Do you believe  in Christ’s salvation?

Ever so glad  for Christ’s compassionate mercy  and forgiveness,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Blessed LORD,  You alone  are our almighty Savior.”

A Christian devotional  to glorify  the LORD of lords  and GOD of gods.
