You Would Have Rejoiced

You Would Have Rejoiced

Everyone  has times  in their lives  when they don’t know what  to think.     They wonder,  “Is this good?     Is this not so good?     What is all this  really about?”

The disciples were the same way  when shortly before His death,  Jesus told them  He would be going away.     They didn’t know what  to think  of that.     But,  Jesus assured them  in John 14:18-19,

I will not leave you  as orphans;  I will come  to you.     After a little while  the world will no longer see Me,  but you will see Me;  because I live,  you will live also.

That sounded good,  but what is it all about?     Then,  Jesus promised  in John 14:23,

If anyone loves Me,  he will keep My word;  and My Father  will love him,  and We will come  to him  and make Our abode  with him.

That sounds ever so good, too.     We do want  to keep Jesus’ word  because it expresses God’s saving love  for us all.     Then Jesus adds  in John 14:28.

You heard  that I said to you,  ‘I go away,  and I will come to you.’      If you loved Me,  you would have rejoiced  because I go  to the Father,  for the Father is greater  than I.

All of this reminds one  of King David  in Psalm 37:3-5,

Trust in the LORD and do good;
Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness.

Delight yourself in the LORD;
And He will give you the desires of your heart.

Commit your way to the LORD,
Trust also in Him, and He will do it.

There is a tremendously awesome promise  for those who “trust”  and believe  in the LORD’s goodness.     Despite all the trials  they have to go through,  as they continue  to “delight”  “in the LORD”  and “commit” all their ways  into His care,  the end result  will be eternal life  in heaven  —  “the desires  of your heart”.     There is no greater promise  in all creation.

Trusting  in God’s way  for our lives,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  Your promises  make us rejoice.”

A Christian devotional  to glorify  the LORD of lords  and GOD of gods.

Pray for our country.

The LORD  made this day, let us rejoice  and be glad  in Him.

The word of the LORD is tried;

He is a shield  to all  who take refuge  in Him.

Sing for joy  in the LORD,  O you righteous ones;

Praise is becoming  to the upright.

They are ever praising Thee.

Psalm 84:4

So the LORD  has compassion  on those who fear Him.

For His lovingkindness  is everlasting.

Psalm 107:1

Let the heart  of those who seek the LORD  be glad.

Psalm 105:3

Not that I have already obtained it,  or have already  become perfect,   but I press on  in order that  I may  lay hold  of that  for which also  I was laid hold of  by Christ Jesus.

Philippians 3:12
