What Were You Discussing?

What Were You Discussing?

Sometimes  what we think  and say  can be rather embarrassing  —  and we don’t want certain people  to know about it.     We want  those certain people  to have a good opinion  of us  —  and we sense  that we are not right  in our thinking.     That’s how it was  for Jesus’  disciples  in Mark 9:33-37,

They came to Capernaum;  and when He was  in the house,  He began  to question them,  “What were you discussing  on the way?”      But they kept silent,  for  on the way  they had discussed  with one another  which of them  was the greatest.      Sitting down,  He called the twelve  and said to them,  “If anyone wants  to be first,  he shall be  last of all  and servant of all.”      Taking a child,  He set him  before them,  and taking him  in His arms,  He said  to them,  “Whoever receives one child  like this  in My name  receives Me;  and whoever receives Me  does not receive Me,  but Him  who sent Me.”

Jesus knows  our every thought.     There is not one single,  little thing  we can hide  from Him.     We seem  to be born  wanting  to be great.     After all,  it’s not much fun  being the most unsuccessful  in everything  you try.

If we’re poor  in sports,  we don’t even get  to be chosen  to be on the team.     Those who are  not good  in academics  are avoided  and thought of  as dumb  —  even though  they have wonderful talents  in another area.     All such situations  are a bummer.     We just want others  to look up to us.

Jesus didn’t point a finger  at anyone  for such thoughts,  but taught us all  a lesson  on loving all  of God’s children.     God knows  who is snubbing who  —  who is loving  His children  —  and who is serving others  the way Jesus  has served us.

Appreciating  God’s love,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for all  You do  for us.     Lead us  in serving Your children.”

Love,
Margaret
