The Man Who Takes Refuge in Him

May 14, 2017

The Man Who Takes Refuge in Him

Everyone loves  to be congratulated  and thumped on the back  for a job well done.     People beam  as they exclaim how great you were.     They say you were smart,  fast,  tough,  and the very best  in your field.

King David never put much stock  in that sort of praise.     Much rather,  he always praised God  for His hand  in bringing David  to victory.     God is always  the real winner  —  and the bringer  to victory.     After one  of God’s victories  in keeping David safe,  David sang  in Psalm 34:1-3,

I will bless the LORD  at all times;
His praise  shall continually be  in my mouth.
My soul  will make its boast  in the LORD;
The humble  will hear it  and rejoice.
O magnify the LORD  with me,
And let us exalt  His name  together.

We all need  to “magnify the LORD”  with David  and  “exalt”  God’s “name”  with him.     Why?     Because only God can give us  a lasting,  eternal victory  in Christ Jesus  —  in every challenge  throughout our lives.     David saw  how God rescues everyone  who looks  to the LORD  for help.     And David was  awed  at how God rescues  every poor person  out of all their troubles.

So,  David just had to tell us all  in Psalm 34:8-9,

O taste and see  that the LORD  is good;
How blessed is  the man  who takes refuge  in Him!

O fear the LORD,  you His saints;
For to those  who fear Him  there is no want.

Are we letting ourselves  be blessed  by the LORD  as we “take refuge  in Him”?     There is no other way  of honestly being “blessed”.     Because David experienced that  throughout his life,  he wants  to encourage  all of us  to trust  in the LORD  for all  of our various kinds  of needed victories  in life.

We need  to constantly  look to the LORD  for our needs  —  instead of depending on our own strength  or the ways  of this world.     The LORD delivers those  who have faith  in Him.

As we take “refuge”  in the LORD,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for being  our eternal victory.”

A Christian devotional  to glorify  the LORD of lords  and GOD of gods.

Pray for our country.

The LORD  made this day, let us rejoice  and be glad  in Him.

Psalm 118:24

The word of the LORD is tried;

He is a shield  to all  who take refuge  in Him.

Psalm 18:30

Sing for joy  in the LORD,  O you righteous ones;

Praise is becoming  to the upright.

Psalm 33:1

How blessed are those  who dwell  in Thy house!

They are ever praising Thee.

Psalm 84:4

Just as a father  has compassion  on his children,

So the LORD  has compassion  on those who fear Him.

Psalm 103:13

O give thanks  to the LORD,  for He is good;

For His lovingkindness  is everlasting.

Psalm 107:1

Glory in His holy name;

Let the heart  of those who seek the LORD  be glad.

Psalm 105:3

Not that I have already obtained it,  or have already  become perfect,   but I press on  in order that  I may  lay hold  of that  for which also  I was laid hold of  by Christ Jesus.

Philippians 3:12
