The Faithful and Sensible Slave

The Faithful and Sensible Slave

Most people don’t want  to think  about it,  but we are  either slaves  to the LORD  —  or slaves  to Satan.     How we think  and live  matters.     Jesus taught  in Matthew 6:24,

No one can serve  two masters;  for either  he will hate the one  and love the other,  or he will be devoted  to one  and despise  the other.     You cannot serve God  and wealth.

“Wealth” there represents  all the greed  of this world,  which takes us away  from God.       Many people feel  they are “enriching” themselves  with their pet sins,  which are nothing but serving Satan  and the sins  of this world.

So,  we have to figure out what really is good,  right,  and best for everyone concerned.     We have been dearly loved  by our Creator Redeemer,  who has loved us  with a sacrificial love.     What is a decent response  to that love.     We should respond as a  “faithful  and sensible slave”.     After all,  everything we have  has been lovingly given  to us.

To teach us  what is morally right  and decent,  Jesus presented a parable  in Matthew 24:45-51,

Who then is  the faithful  and sensible slave  whom his master put in charge  of his household  to give them their food  at the proper time?      Blessed is that slave  whom his master finds  so doing  when he comes.     Truly I say to you  that he will put him  in charge  of all his possessions.     But if  that evil slave says  in his heart,  ‘My master is not coming  for a long time,’  and begins to beat  his fellow slaves  and eat and drink  with drunkards;  the master  of that slave  will come  on a day  when he does not expect him  and at an hour  which he does not know,  and will cut him  in pieces  and assign him  a place  with the hypocrites;  in that place  there will be weeping  and gnashing  of teeth.

No one knows  when our Lord Jesus  will come  for this earth’s Judgment Day.     What will our hearts  be like  after facing  so many tempting onslaughts  of this world’s evil ways?     Our strength comes  from the Lord,  who is  “the way,  and the truth,  and the life”.     (John 14:6)

Bound  to serve  in the strength  of God’s love,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  thank You for being  the way,  truth,  and life  that leads us  in Your righteousness.”

Love,
Margaret
