An Everlasting Rock

An Everlasting Rock

We can’t  —  shouldn’t  —  base our faith  on just any little ol’ whim  or feeling  —  something that might be here today  and gone tomorrow.     It’s only sensible  to base our faith  on something that is solid,   something that is true  —  and historically proven.      That is why the New Testament  often refers  to the fulfilled prophecies  about Jesus  that were made  in Old Testament times  and fulfilled  in Christ.      That is “rock” solid history,  written by many men over thousands  of years.     That’s the “rock”  we need  to hold onto  —  prophecies about a Savior  that were all fulfilled  in the one man,  Christ Jesus.      That’s something solid,  something true.

It would be totally foolish  to base our faith  and trust  in mere myths  and superstitions.     Myths and superstitions  cannot save anyone  in dire trouble  —  and certainly not  on Judgment Day.     We need the wisdom  to examine  the facts  that have proven themselves  to be true  over the years.

As Isaiah preached,  he wrote in Isaiah 26:4,

Trust  in the LORD  forever,
For  in GOD the LORD,  we have  an everlasting Rock.

As King David trusted  in the LORD,  he declared  in Psalm 31:1-3,

In You,  O LORD,  I have  taken refuge;
Let me  never be ashamed;
In Your righteousness  deliver me.

Incline Your ear  to me,  rescue me quickly;
Be to me  a rock  of strength,
A stronghold  to save me.

For  You are my rock  and my fortress;
For Your name’s sake  You will lead me  and guide me.

Here we see  how David positively trusts  in God.     David asks God  to rescue and lead him  For Your name’s sake.     God’s word  from the beginning  of time  has promised  to be our “refuge”“rock  of strength”,  and “fortress”.     David is simply holding God  to His promise,  because God’s  “righteousness”  will not fail us  —  that’s God’s  “righteousness”,  not ours.

As we look  to God’s  “righteousness”  in Christ Jesus,  to be our  “everlasting rock”,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  You are our refuge and strength  in Christ Jesus.”

Love,
Margaret
