For I Have Sinned Against You
.
When King David went to the LORD for help in his troubles, he prayed in Psalm 41:4,
As for me, I said, “O LORD, be gracious to me;
Heal my soul, for I have sinned against You.”
David realized his sinful condition. He did not try to hide his sins from God — or pretend that they did not exist. Nor did David imagine that he only sinned against other people. David knew that every sin he sinned was actually sin against the LORD God Almighty — our Creator Redeemer.
The forgiveness of our sins, and the healing of our souls comes from God. God is the one we must approach with fear and trembling, with respect and love — asking for forgiveness.
Every time we do something wrong against someone, we are rebelling against God’s love. God is the one who made us all — and just as God is loving towards us, He wants us to be loving towards each other.
When David sinned with Bathsheba, he went to God for forgiveness, praying in Psalm 51:4,
Against You, You only, I have sinned
And done what is evil in Your sight,
So that You are justified when You speak
And blameless when You judge.
People tend to justify their evils when they feel they are just doing something against another person — another sinner. But, it is not just another sinner we are hurting. We are hurting our LORD and Savior. God has loved us with an eternal love — a sacrificial love. We have no right to sin against that love. All of our thinking, doing, and saying should be in honor, love, and respect for our Redeemer.
Even the prodigal son, in Luke 15:11-32 realized how he had sinned against God, when he said in Luke 15:18,
I will get up and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight.”
We need to realize the gravity of our every sin — and start living according to God’s love.
God is waiting for us to turn to Him, so that when forgiven, we may say, “Hallelujah! LORD, thank You for guiding us in Your word.”
Love,
Margaret
