Finding God

Finding God

Many people are searching  for God  (or a god)  by reading  all sorts of books,  written by people  with all sorts  of confusing,  contradictory beliefs.     Everybody writes  about personal experiences  and opinions  and,  of course, there is no agreement  amongst them.

But,  there is a collection  of sixty-six books,  written by many different authors,  passed down to us  over thousands  of years.     That collection of books  is the Bible  and it tells us  the whole story  of our sinful nature  and how God  is seeking right now  to save us  from our  sinful selves.

Although the Bible  has many authors,  who wrote  over so many years,  all these authors are  in agreement.     Why?     They were all inspired  by God.     It was God  who led each  of these men  to write  and preserve His word  with virtually no changes  over the years.     That is why  all the books are  in agreement  and why  they have not changed  over the centuries.     Therefore,  Psalm 119:89 says,  “Your word,  O LORD,  is eternal;  it stands firm  in the heavens.”

The word of God  proves itself  from one writer  to another  showing the unfolding  of the history  that brought our Savior  to earth.     Each prophecy  is accurately fulfilled  so that we may know  for sure  this word is trustworthy.     It is good for us,  for the sake  of our salvation,  to study the Bible  from beginning  to end,  to get the whole picture  of what God has  to say  to us.

Our heavenly Father’s love  reaches out  to us  in His word  as He tells us  step by step  how He has brought about  our salvation.     God does not mince words  as He tells  of the sins  of the people  –  even the very ancestors  of Christ.     He meant to show us  that Jesus was born  from a line  of sinful people,  just like us.     But yet,  Jesus Himself  was without sin  because He is also God.     So Jesus could say  in John 6:45,

It is written  in the prophets,   ‘AND THEY SHALL ALL BE TAUGHT  OF GOD.’     Everyone  who has heard  and learned  from the Father,  comes to Me.

Note  how Jesus showed  that prophecy was fulfilled  as He taught them.     He made His point clear.     He was God  and man,  teaching people  what our heavenly Father wants  from His children  –  faith,  hope,  love,  and sanctified behavior.

Some people  don’t read the Bible  claiming it is too difficult.     But that’s not  really true.     Only the names  of some of the people  are difficult  to pronounce.     One does not have to pronounce  those names  to get the gist  of the story  and the lesson  God wants  to teach us  from it.

Therefore  we can rest  in Paul’s teaching  in Romans 15:4,

For whatever was written  in earlier times  was written  for our instruction,  so that through perseverance  and the encouragement  of the Scriptures  we might have hope.

The promises God gives us  in Christ  are so much more worthwhile  than the untrustworthy opinions  of people,  who basically just like  to promote themselves.     King David said it well  in 2 Samuel 22:31-32,

As for God,  His way  is blameless.     The word  of the LORD  is tested.     He is a shield  to all  who take refuge  in Him.     For who is God,  besides the LORD?     And who is a rock,  besides our God?

Based on the proof  of many fulfilled prophecies,  Acts 4:12 states,  “And there is salvation  in no one else;  for there is no other name  under heaven  that has been given  among men  by which  we must be saved.”      Jesus promises  in Mark 13:31,   “Heaven and earth  will pass away,  but My words  will not pass away.”

Ecclesiastes 12:11-14   teaches,

“The words  of wise men  are like goads,  and masters of these collections  are like well-driven nails;  they are given  by one Shepherd.     But beyond this,  my son,  be warned:   the writing  of many books  is endless,  and excessive devotion  to books  is wearying  to the body.     The conclusion,  when all has been heard,  is:   fear God  and keep His commandments,  because this applies  to every person.   For God will bring  every act  to judgment,  everything which is hidden,  whether it is good  or evil.”

Because God instructs us well,  we say,  “Hallelujah!”

Love,
Margaret
