I Am Writing These Things to You

I Am Writing These Things to You

When a person  takes the time and effort  to write something,  it is most likely  something  of importance.     Things are written  to help us remember  important facts.     So many details  are factored  into the main point  and purpose  of writing.

That is what  the Apostle John  had in his heart  as he wrote  to all those  in the church.     John wrote  in 1 John 2:1-6,

My little children,   I am writing these things  to you  so that  you may not sin.      And if anyone sins,  we have an Advocate  with the Father,  Jesus Christ  the righteous;  and He Himself is  the propitiation  for our sins;  and not for ours only,  but also for those  of the whole world.

By this we know  that we have come  to know Him,  if we keep His commandments.     The one who says,  “I have come  to know Him,”  and does not keep  His commandments,  is a liar,  and the truth  is not in him;  but whoever keeps His word,  in him  the love of God  has truly been perfected.     By this we know  that we are  in Him:  the one who says  he abides  in Him  ought himself  to walk  in the same manner  as He walked.

John considered  all Christians  his “little children”  because no matter what  their physical age,  they were growing up into the true faith.     Growing  in the true faith  is a life-long endeavor  for all Christians.     God is so awesome  in everything  He has done  —  and is doing  —  that we are always kept  in a state  of learning more.

John took the time for  “writing these things  to you”  to keep us all  on the straight  and narrow path  of rightly believing and trusting  in Jesus only.     On top  of that,  John was fully aware  that we will always  be sinners  while on this earth.     When we fall  into sin,  we need the help  and assurance  of Jesus’ ability  to thoroughly forgive  all our sins.     Knowing that Jesus also has the power  to forgive the sins  of every believer  in “the whole world”,  strengthens us  to realize  that He also will  forgive our sins.

Being  so beloved  by God Almighty  leads us  to strive  to keep  “His word”.     So,  those  who believe  and trust  in Jesus  will honestly  and sincerely  make great efforts  “to walk  in the same manner  as He walked”.

As we daily “walk”  in the love  of God,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  Your love  is marvelous!”

Love,
Margaret
