Equip You in Every Good Thing

Equip You in Every Good Thing

It feels good  to have the satisfaction  of a job well done.     And,  without  any thought  of trying  to work our way  to heaven,  in love,  we can  —  and should  —  have  the desire  to be pleasing  in God’s sight.     That is why Hebrews 13:20-21 blesses  Christians  by saying,

Now the God of peace…….    equip you  in every good thing  to do His will.

It is God  who enables us  to do  what is really pleasing  in His sight.     If we imagine  that we’re going to be  God-pleasing  with our own strength  —  that would be nothing but  proud work righteousness.     Such pride  condemns us.     Knowing that,  King David  humbly confessed  in Psalm 138:8,

The LORD  will accomplish  what concerns me.

Since our very breath depends  on God,  we need to realize  with the apostle Paul,  in Galatians 2:20,

I have been crucified  with Christ;  and it is no longer I  who live,  but Christ lives  in me;  and the life  which I now live  in the flesh  I live by faith  in the Son of God,  who loved me  and gave Himself up  for me.

Because we are sinners,  we will always be tempted  to want  to do things our way  and be proud  of ourselves.     And because such temptations  are so common,  God’s word  gives us warnings  about future temptations.     A couple examples include:

Do not quench  the Spirit.     1 Thessalonians 5:19

Do not grieve  the Holy Spirit  of God, by whom  you were sealed  for the day of redemption.     Ephesians 4:30

We “quench the Spirit”  by not studying God’s word  and not praying.     We “grieve the Holy Spirit”  by purposely sinning.     In these ways,  we don’t allow God  to “equip” us  “in every good thing  to do His will”.        If we really want  the LORD  to “accomplish what concerns me“,  we will remain  in His word  and ways  through faith.

Looking  to God  for all our needs,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for accomplishing  what concerns us.”

A Christian devotional  to glorify  the LORD of lords  and GOD of gods.

Pray for our country.

Praise is becoming  to the upright.

They are ever praising Thee.

Psalm 84:4

Psalm 107:1

Let the heart  of those who seek the LORD  be glad.

Psalm 105:3

Not that I have already obtained it,  or have already  become perfect,   but I press on  in order that  I may  lay hold  of that  for which also  I was laid hold of  by Christ Jesus.
