My Soul Does Wait

My Soul Does Wait

In all our concerns,  we sure would like  instant answers  to our prayers.     Our desires  for instant answers  often has more  to do  with our utter helplessness  than with living  in an age  of technology.     Feeling weak  and helpless  brings out a frantic call  for help  as we sense  an impending disaster.

But,  whatever our problem,  we will always have  to depend  upon the LORD’s wisdom  and power  to answer  in just the right time  and right way.     Placing our trust  in the LORD,  we have  to say along with Psalm 130:5-6,

I wait  for the LORD,  my soul does wait,
And  in His word  do I hope.
My soul waits  for the Lord
More than the watchmen  for the morning;
Indeed,  more than the watchmen  for the morning.

There is a peace  in waiting  “for the LORD”.     That peace calms us  in our anxiety.     We can calmly “wait”  because we know  that the LORD’s help  is sure  —  just as the coming  of  “the morning”  is sure.

God made the “morning”  and the evening.     They have been  a sure thing  since the beginning  of time  —  just as the LORD  has been faithful  in answering  the prayers  of His children  since the beginning  of time.     Throughout the Bible,  God has promised many times  to care  for our needs.     When God makes a promise  He can be depended upon  to keep  His promise.     So,  the psalmist says,  “in His word  do I hope”.

We are depending  on the LORD’s righteousness,  holiness,  and almighty power  to keep promises.     That will never fail us.     We might not understand  why God allows  certain things  to happen,  but we can be assured  that it will ultimately prove  to be the best thing  for us.     As Romans 8:28 says,

And we know  that God causes  all things  to work together  for good  to those  who love God,  to those  who are called  according to His purpose.

Trusting God’s holy promises,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  Your ways  are always good.”

Love,
Margaret
