The Beginning of Wisdom

The Beginning of Wisdom

We don’t need   to attend big universities  for years  to gain wisdom.      We don’t need  to become engrossed  in the many philosophies  of this world.      We don’t even need  to buy a bunch  of self-help books.      And,  neither do we need  to wait until  we get older.      We only need  to know  that we can go  to our Lord and Savior  every time  we need help  and guidance.      As Jesus said  in Matthew 18:3-4,

Unless you are converted  and become  like children,  you shall not enter  the kingdom  of heaven.      Whoever then  humbles himself  as this child,  he is the greatest  in the kingdom of heaven.

The wisdom we need  is the realization  that God is God  —  He always  has been God  —  and He always  will be God.     He alone  is the Creator  of all things,  the Sustainer,  and the Redeemer.      It is most unwise  to disregard  our Lord.     All that  is why  Psalm 111:10  reminds us  that,

The fear  of the LORD  is the beginning  of wisdom;
A good understanding  have all those  who do  His commandments.
His praise  endures forever.

The fear  of the LORD  is just  a common sense acknowledgment  that He alone  is LORD of lords  and God of gods.      It is the respect  that all  of creation needs  to give  to their Maker.      Why?      Because He is also  the Judge  of all  in the end.      The LORD  is the one  we all need  to answer to  when our days  on earth  are done.

Those who understand  that God made us  and truly redeemed us  in Jesus Christ  have the beginning of wisdom.     We lovingly do His commandments  because  we are  in awe  of how good,  loving,  and forgiving  our Savior is  towards us.      We see the difference  between good  and evil  —  and how wonderful it is  that our Redeemer  is so holy and good  in the salvation  He freely gives us.

The wisdom  of respecting  ( fearing )  the LORD,  as God and Savior  over all,  is what leads us  to trust  in all  of His ways.      We can trust God  because He has proven  His love  in Jesus.      So,  whenever we have  a challenge  that is too big for us  to handle,  we are comforted  with God’s words  in Proverbs 3:5-6,

Trust  in the LORD  with all your heart,
And do not lean  on your own  understanding.
In all your ways  acknowledge Him,
And He will  make your paths  straight.

So,  with childlike faith  and love,  we say,  “Hallelujah!      LORD,  Your love and faithfulness  are great  far beyond words.      Thank You!”

Love,
Margaret
