Regard the Patience of Our Lord

July 14, 2017

Regard the Patience of Our Lord

We know how it is  with our kids  —  give them an inch  and they’ll  take a mile.     And we know  that although we’re supposed  to be adults,  we are the same.     When God gives us  an inch  of patience  with our sins,  we dare  to stretch out  our sins  for a mile.     That’s disrespectful  and unloving.

That’s why verses  like 2 Peter 3:15  advise us to,

Regard the patience  of our Lord  as salvation.

We really need  God’s love  and patience  to safely guide us through this sin-torn world.     That’s why  we must be careful  to not become haughty  and arrogant  when we are not immediately punished  for our sinful ways.     We are not  to try  and take advantage  of our Savior’s loving patience  in guiding us  to “salvation”.

Every time  God gives us an inch,  we need  to realize  that He is giving us  another chance  for eternal  “salvation”.     So,  which is worth more  —  a sneaking chance  to wallow  in our favorite sins  for another moment,   or the blessedness  of being safely  at home  in heaven  forever  and ever?     We know  the honest answer  to that.

If we’re in any doubt  and hope  that God won’t see us sinning,  we need  to think on verses  like Psalm 28:5,

Because  they  do not regard  the works  of the LORD
Nor the deeds  of His hands,
He will tear them down  and not build them up.

To have “regard” is to have respect  and affection.     We are not  to have any sort  of affection  for sins  —  or imagine that our sins need  to be respected  by others.     Our eternal salvation  is at stake,  so Romans 13:14 tells us,

But  put on  the Lord Jesus Christ,  and make no provision  for the flesh  in regard  to its lusts.

So,  we keep putting  our whole lives  in God’s hands  and lean on His love  and understanding,  saying,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  thank You  for Your patience  and for strengthening us  in Your word.”

A Christian devotional  to glorify  the LORD of lords  and GOD of gods.

Pray for our country.
