I Do Not Ask On Behalf of the World

I Do Not Ask On Behalf of the World

This world has many deceivers  who twist God’s word  in order  to gain popularity.    We all like  to take  the easy way out  of any challenging situation  —  like staying  in the true faith.     Knowing that,  false preachers dwell  on a few words  in the Bible  and totally dismiss  the rest  of God’s word,  as if  it doesn’t even exist.

A prime example is how some preachers treat  John 3:16,

For God  so loved the world,  that He gave  His only begotten Son,  that whoever believes  in Him  shall not perish,  but have eternal life.

False preachers will take this well-known verse  and dwell on  “for God  so loved  the world.     So,  what’s wrong with that?     Based on those few words,  they are preaching  that God loves everyone  so much  that absolutely no one  will be sent  to hell.     They reason  that it doesn’t matter  what we believe,  because God saves us all  with His love.

Never mind  that they dismiss  the part where Jesus says,  “that whoever believes  in Him  shall not perish”.     In other words,  only those  who trust and believe  in Jesus’ power  to forgive our sins  will be saved  unto eternal life.     So,  all are not saved  —  and hell is real.

They also never bring up  verses like  John 17:9,  where Jesus prayed  for all those  who believe  in Him,

I ask  on their behalf;   I do not ask  on behalf  of the world,  but of those  whom You have given Me;  for they are Yours.

Jesus is specifically saying  that He is not praying  for anyone  who is  “of the world”.     So,  who is  “of the world”?     That term refers  to all  who love the “stuff”  in this world more  than they love Christ Jesus  or trust Him.     That “stuff” includes:   material things  —  money  —  their pet sins  —  popularity  —  pride  —  being hateful and greedy  —  lying  —  cheating  —  self-righteousness  —  and every other such thing.     These are things  “the world” holds onto.

When people  refuse  to give up  their love  of “the world”,  they are showing  that they despise Jesus.

It matters  what we believe  and love.     Instead of following  some false preacher,  we need  to delve  into God’s word,  live by it,  and ask Jesus  to pray  for us,  as He keeps us  in the truth.

Trusting Jesus’ power  to forgive,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  thank You  for guiding us  in Your word.”

A Christian devotional  to glorify  the LORD of lords  and GOD of gods.
