The Contrite and Lowly of Spirit

The Contrite and Lowly of Spirit

There are many different religions  and religious beliefs  in this world.     Many proudly boast  of the good job  they think they are doing  of earning  a high standing  in the heavenly realms.     They follow all the mandates  and traditions  of their particular religion  and look down on those  who humbly trust  in the LORD.

But,  in Isaiah 57:3-4,   the LORD God,  our Creator Redeemer,  who has proven  His truthfulness,  says to all  who trust  in themselves,

But come here,  you sons  of a sorceress,
Offspring  of an adulterer  and a prostitute.

Against whom  do you jest?
Against whom  do you  open wide  your mouth
And stick out  your tongue?
Are you not children  of rebellion,
Offspring of deceit,

The LORD continues  by describing  their wickedness  and deceitfulness  as they boast  in their worthless idols  and follow them  with a strong determination.     They know about  the LORD,  but reject Him,  His word,  and His followers.     They boldly lie  about God  and imagine  they have power  in doing so.

But,  in spite  of all their pride  and seeming success  in this world,  God shows them  the truth  about all His faithful followers  in Isaiah 57:15,

For thus says  the high  and exalted One
Who lives forever,  whose name  is Holy,
“I dwell  on a high  and holy place,
And also  with  the contrite  and lowly  of spirit
In order  to revive the spirit  of the lowly

And to revive the heart  of the contrite.”

“The contrite  and lowly  of spirit”  are all those  who humbly confess  their sins  to the LORD  and look  to Him alone  for the forgiveness  they need  in order  to enter heaven.     They see  the truth  about our sinful natures  —  and God’s holiness  and grace  through Christ Jesus.     God loves them  for always acknowledging  those truths.

May we always live  in the truth  and allow the LORD  to dwell  in our hearts.     Then  we will surely say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  Your grace  in Christ Jesus  is our salvation.”

Love,
Margaret
