Trust and Understanding
All our lives we come upon one challenge after another. Things happen in this world that we cannot comprehend. When all these difficulties are thrust upon us, and we are thrust into sticky situations, we have no way of really knowing what to do. We’re powerless as we realize we don’t even know all the factors involved. Suddenly, everything is so confusing.
We want to be in control of what happens to us, but, we are not. And, we don’t know where to turn. We want to change certain factors, but cannot. What is… is. In all our predicaments, we must turn to our LORD, because only He knows all things and can lead us through all things — victoriously.
Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.
To really trust in the LORD is to have full confidence in Him. With trust, we can boldly remember His love for us and feel secure in it. As we remember that He is our heavenly Father, we can be assured that He wants us to throw all our cares on Him.
God asks us to trust in Him with all our heart. That would be with all of our inner being, our whole mind and understanding, our soul, our conscience, and all our emotions and passions. With every bit of courage we can muster, we are to trust in our LORD.
We can’t lean on any of our own understanding, because there is so much we don’t know. Our understanding is flawed and ridden with fears that are influenced by the unbelieving world around us. Our understanding is also flawed by our sinful natures. Only God has a truthful knowledge of everything involved and is able to know what is best.
Frankly, we don’t really know what is best for us — even though we want to imagine that we do.
We all have intelligence, knowledge, and discernment to a certain degree. But we cannot depend on our own understanding. Only God’s understanding is dependable.
When God asks us to acknowledge Him in all of our ways, He’s asking us to give our whole lives over to Him in a loving trust.
All of our habits, mannerisms, moral character, and life journeys are to be an acknowledgement that the LORD is God over all of our life. We are to know for certain that God is in control and will be our Judge. We are to learn what God expects from us as His children and recognize that we do have to answer to Him for all of our behavior.
This sort of respect and leaning on the LORD will lead God to direct us in the way we should go. Only then will God make our way to turn out right and good — that is, God will give us the knowledge and courage to do what is right and good. When we give ourselves over to the LORD in loving trust, our whole way of living becomes something that is pleasing and right in His sight.
When God leads us out of situations that could have led us into eternal condemnation, and we reflect on His everlasting love in gently leading us on the right paths, we will stand in awe of our LORD’s faithful lovingkindness towards us — even when we were confused.
The more we trust in God, the more our understanding of the depth of His love will grow.
As we see how greatly we are loved, we will say, “Hallelujah! The LORD is God over all.”
Love,
Margaret
