The Foolishness of God

The Foolishness of God

Many people consider Christians  rather stupid and naive  for believing  that only Christ Jesus  can take away  all our sins  and make us righteous enough  to enter heaven.     They view themselves  as much smarter  and in control  of things.     But,  1 Corinthians 1:21  shows the truth  of the matter,

For since  in the wisdom  of God  the world  through its wisdom  did not come  to know God,   God was well-pleased  through the foolishness  of the message preached  to save those  who believe.

What a surprise!     The world thinks  it is wise,  but their worldly “wisdom”  keeps them  from knowing God  as their Savior.     Therefore,  they are lost eternally.     In the same breath,  God loves those  who humbly believe  and accept His salvation  through Christ Jesus,  so He grants them forgiveness,  righteousness,  and eternal life.     All this  because Christians simply see  how the Savior really is  the fulfillment  of many Old Testament prophecies.

This letter  to the Corinthians  explains how some people  in the world feel  they must see miracles  before they can believe  —  and others want to see something  that is “smarter”  and less embarrassing  than Jesus  dying  on a cross  to actually pay  for their sins.     When they don’t see those things,  they disgustedly refuse  to believe  in Jesus  and say Christianity is foolishness.     God’s wisdom is more  than they can grasp.

They are the ones  who are foolishly  refusing eternal salvation,  so 1 Corinthians 1:25 says  all this happens,

Because  the foolishness  of God  is wiser  than men,  and the weakness  of God  is stronger  than men.

Christians need  to humbly realize  that we don’t have to be  the most intelligent,  the mightiest,  or the richest  to be a true child  of God Almighty.     The world despises us now,  but 1 Corinthians 1:27-29 explains,

God has chosen  the foolish things  of the world  to shame the wise,  and God has chosen  the weak things  of the world  to shame  the things which are strong,  and the base things  of the world  and the despised  God has chosen,  the things that are not,  so that He may nullify  the things that are,  so that no man  may boast  before God.

All this is  to keep us  from being sinfully proud  and boastful.     This is God  at work  in our hearts  to keep us  in the true faith.     So,  we glorify His name  and gratefully exclaim,  “Hallelujah!”

Love,
Margaret
