Since You Repudiate It

Since You Repudiate It

In the New Testament times,  Paul and Barnabas  were tireless preachers  of God’s word.     They went  from town  to town preaching  and showing the people  how Christ Jesus truly is  the Savior promised  in the Old Testament.     Many people,  both Jews and Gentiles,  believed God’s word  and wanted  to hear more.

That’s when a problem started.     The Jews  who did not believe  Paul’s preaching  became very jealous  to see so many Jews and Gentiles gladly listening  to God’s word.     So,  they started picking on Paul,  contradicting what he said,  and even blaspheming.     That’s when Paul and Barnabas boldly said  in Acts 13:46,

It was necessary  that the word of God  be spoken  to you first;  since you repudiate it  and judge yourselves unworthy  of eternal life,  behold,  we are turning  to the Gentiles.

All those who believed Paul,  rejoiced and glorified  God’s word.     But,  the unbelieving Jews began persecuting Paul and Barnabas,  driving them out  of that area.     Paul and Barnabas  did not resist  their hateful jealousy.     Instead,  they followed Jesus’ command  to all of His disciples  in Luke 9:5,

And as for those  who do not receive you,  as you go out  from that city,  shake the dust  off your feet  as a testimony against them.

That’s it.     Just leave the unbelievers alone.     The unbelievers  repudiated  God’s word,  denying its validity  and authority.     They flatly refused  to accept God’s word  —  even though it was proven  to be true.

When someone blasphemes  and repudiates God’s word,  they are belligerently claiming  to be willing  to face the consequences  of their unbelief.

So,  the question then becomes,  what do we think  of God’s word?     Do we rejoice over the message  that Jesus’ suffering,  death,  and resurrection  grants eternal life  to absolutely all  who believe  that gospel message?     Everyone needs to examine  their own heart.     If there are doubts  and rebellious tendencies,  one needs  to study God’s word more  to see how God’s word is eternally holy  and true  —  the very best thing for us  —  and what will lead us  to the joy we want.

At peace  with God’s love  and wisdom,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for giving us Your word.”

Love,
Margaret
