Your Thoughts

In this dog eat dog world,  one is often aware  of situations  where no one really cares  about those around them.     Each person  is looking out  for numeral uno  —  their number one priority  —  themselves.     Their thoughts  are really only  looking out  for their own future,  so they must hide  their motives.

In looking  for a life partner,  people might discover  that their new partner  is really only interested  in selfishly satisfying his/her own desires.     In a business partnership,  people find  their partner cheating.     Retail stores realize  that some customers  are more interested  in shoplifting  than supporting their business.

In all these situations,  someone is just pretending  to be loving,  pretending  to be interested  in being helpful,  or pretending  to be looking out  for the welfare of others.     But,  in reality,  they only want  to get something  for themselves.

All of this happens  because we live  in a very sinful world.     When we’ve “been took”  in some way  or another,  it can be devastating.

In this sinful world,  we do have  one truly good Friend though,  who knows  and cares  about us  more than any any person ever could.     This Friend  knows our every thought  —  is with us  where ever we are  —  helps us  over all the rough spots  in our lives  —  and is always looking out  for our eternal welfare.     Of course,  this Friend  is our Lord  and Savior.

When King David wrote Psalm 139,  he was describing  our Lord’s loving intimacy  with his every thought  and feeling.    David recognized  that God knew him  even before  he was born,  because God  was the one  who created him.

God’s love  in creating us  is so great,  that there is no way  anyone can fully describe  all the loving things  God does  for any one of us.     Every day  of our lives,  God provides  an infinite number  of blessings  to help us  through each day.    God’s loving thoughts  are always on us  every moment  of every day.

What King David did was  to realize  all those blessings.     David didn’t take any  of God’s blessings  for granted.     He saw  where all good things  really came from.     David saw  all the little things  in life  that are here  for us  because of the almighty power  of our LORD.     David saw  where true love  and faithfulness  and goodness  could be found.     And so he sings  in Psalm 139:17-18,

How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God!
How vast is the sum of them!
If I should count them, they would outnumber the sand.
When I awake, I am still with You.

Do we recognize God’s blessings  and closeness  in every moment  of our lives?     Or do we deny  that God has shown us love  every single day?     We need  to recognize the truth  of God’s love.

All  of God’s loving “thoughts”  towards us  truly do “outnumber the sand”.     Look.     Study.     Acknowledge everything around us  as a gift  from God.     Love God  in return  for all He does  for us every day.

Even in all our tough times,  when everything is  in a turmoil,  God’s love  is there  to settle us  and guide our steps  to continue living  in His way.     In those tough times  we need  to reflect  on all God did  to bring our Savior  to this earth  to redeem us.     That is a faithful love.     We must not forget it.

Let us hold  all God’s love  as “precious” to us.     Then,  even in our troubles,  we will say,  “Hallelujah!     God’s love  is infinite.”

Love,
Margaret
