His Faithfulness

His Faithfulness
Psalm 37:3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness.
Sometimes we just feel drained and don’t want to deal with the constant challenges of this world. Every day the news broadcasts tell about more evil things happening — con artists getting away with their crimes, the rights of the innocent being abused, gangs wreaking havoc, politicians being devious, evil agendas indoctrinating people through the media, etc.
Psalm 37 tells us to not let all this evil eat away at us. God is still in control of all things. Our job is to “Trust in the LORD, and do good.” We are not to join the crowd of evil doers, just because “everybody’s doing it”. In times like these, God especially calls on us to “do good“. So, our life style is to still be to God’s glory, even when the world makes fun of us for being a fuddy-duddy of sorts.
And, we are to “cultivate faithfulness“. That can also be translated, “feed on His faithfulness“. As we trust in our LORD, we remember how faithful He has been down through the ages. Remembering God’s “faithfulness” and depending on His “faithfulness” is “feeding” on it and “cultivating” it in our lives.
As we remember God’s faithfulness, He will strengthen us from day to day and lead us in His paths of righteousness.
Isaiah 5:20-21 gives God’s opinion and judgment on all those who want to live like the world. It is a warning to the world that refuses to listen, and a comfort to those who persevere in living according to God’s word. It says,
Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!
Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and clever in their own sight!
Here we can easily see God’s condemnation of all those who defy His word.
Because God is pure and holy, He wants all of His children to be pure and holy. That should be us.
So, we had better not ever call anything evil good. We surely do see people all around us doing exactly that every day. Most of the time they call it being “politically correct” and “learning to be tolerant”. That is no excuse in God’s eyes. Evil is evil.
Then the comparison of substituting “darkness for light” is made. That is when the world boldly pushes a lie upon the people and claim that it is the enlightened way to live these days. Those lies include the claim that abortion is to be accepted by all; that the definition of marriage needs to be redefined to be more inclusive and “fair”; that euthanasia is a right; that premarital sex should be accepted as a fact of life, etc.
God’s woe is also to those who “substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter”. That is when evil people accuse God’s children of being the enemy of society and purposely overlook the outrages of evil leaders and indecent media.
God is fully aware that all of these worldly people arrogantly brag about being wiser and more clever than others, as they “pull the wool over everyone’s eyes”. God knows how they look down on Christians as being dumb for trusting in Jesus for their salvation.
That is why God tells His children to just, “Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.” God has proven His eternal love and power in Jesus Christ. We can surely trust Him to be with us to the end, as we live according to His word.
Then as God strengthens us day by day, and leads us in His paths of righteousness, we will see the beauty of it all and surely say, “Hallelujah! The LORD is my Savior.”
Love,
Margaret
