But There Is Forgiveness With You

But There Is Forgiveness With You

When sins  and problems  in our lives  get us down,  we should not allow ourselves  to drown  in despair  and self-pity.     Having a pity-party  only leads us  into deeper feelings  of hopelessness,  which are,  in essence,  a denial  of God’s love  for us.

Feeling sorry for ourselves  all the time  only creates a pit  of utter hopelessness.     But,  crying out  to our Savior  turns our attention to Him,  where it belongs.

With our full attention  on our Savior  and His love  for us,  we should confess our sins  and ask  for His mercy,  forgiveness,  and salvation.     It is God’s mercy  that causes Him  to not count our sins  against us.     That is why the psalmist could sing  in Psalm 130:3-4,

If You,  LORD,  should mark iniquities,
O Lord,  who could stand?

But  there is forgiveness  with You,
That You may be feared.

 Because God is absolutely holy,  He can’t stand sin.     So  when He judges,  in His pure eyes,  every one of us  is guilty  of sin  that is deserving  of death.     No one is able  to stand before God  and claim any sort  of ”goodness”.     So,  our LORD mercifully  does not count our sins  against us.

Instead,  He forgives  all those  who turn to Him  in repentance  and prayer.     The LORD does that  so that we will learn  to have a healthy respect  for Him  —  That You may be feared.

Let us stop our pity-party  and turn  to our Lord  in repentance.     Then we will rejoice  with the psalmist  in verses 7-8,

O Israel,  hope in the LORD;
For  with the LORD  there is lovingkindness,
And with Him  is abundant redemption.

And He will  redeem Israel
From all his iniquities.

Because of our Savior’s love  for us,  we have a sure hope  for His abundant redemption  in Jesus Christ.

As we remember God’s love  in Christ,  we can say,  “Hallelujah!     The Lord’s love  gladly redeems me.”
