Established by the LORD
As we go through life, we will probably sometimes wonder if living by faith in the LORD will really carry us through all the rough spots in life. One sees unbelievers getting richer, more powerful, more arrogant, and more hateful. They seem to get all the worldly “blessings”, and yet, have obtained all those “blessings” dishonestly or through some other ”untoward” means.
We know the LORD created us, sustains us, and has sent Jesus Christ as our Savior from sin. But, we might sometimes wonder if our “faith” is good enough. Our sinful tendencies to stumble and fall bug us and shame us. Even though we struggle to live by faith and according to God’s word, we seem to be the only ones struggling with anything. The unbelievers don’t seem to have any struggles.
We sometimes wonder if our faith will last throughout the rest of our life. Will we have what it takes to faithfully make it through our life here on earth?
That’s where God wants to reassure us. We might not always realize all He continually does to help us over our rough spots, but nevertheless, He is always close to our side. He is always giving us the little extra boost of strength to keep on trusting Him because of all that we have learned about Him and the wonders of His love in Christ.
It is not our strength that will help us through life. It is not our efforts that will make us victoriously reach our heavenly home. Only God has the strength and power to do it all for us in Jesus Christ.
King David, in Psalm 37:23-25 puts it this way,
The steps of a man are established by the LORD; and He delights in his way. When he falls, he shall not be hurled headlong; because the LORD is the One who holds his hand.
I have been young, and now I am old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken…
God delights in all His children who look to Him for their needs. As a loving father holds the hand of his little child as they walk along, so God is holding our hand. When we stumble and fall, God has a hold on us. We will not fall down all the way and get hurt.
David ends this psalm with a very important point in verse 40.
And the LORD helps them, and delivers them; He delivers them from the wicked, and saves them, because they take refuge in Him.
Let us always take refuge in our heavenly Father’s arms, knowing that He has promised to do all things for us. His might saves — not ours.
As we trust in our LORD’s love for us, we will say, “Hallelujah! Our heavenly Father carries us from day to day to His heavenly home.”
Love,
Margaret
