I Have Inscribed You

When everything seems  to be going wrong,  just like with the Israelites,  we can feel  so discouraged.     We can feel  that God has forsaken us  and does not love us  any more.     When the Israelites felt forsaken  and forgotten,  God gave them  a very special promise  to comfort them.     They probably didn’t understand all  of it,  but they knew  it sounded hopeful.

This time of distress  for the Israelites  was around 700 years  before Jesus walked this earth.     Isaiah was the preacher  bringing God’s comfort  to the people  during a time  when the country  was falling apart  because of its many sins.    Isaiah’s word  of comfort  and hope  is also for us today.     It is in Isaiah 49:14-16,

But Zion said,  “The LORD  has forsaken me,
And the Lord  has forgotten me.”

“Can a woman  forget her nursing child,
And have no compassion  on the son  of her womb?
Even these may forget,  but I will not  forget you.
Behold,   I have inscribed you   on the palms of My hands…”

When we feel forsaken  and forgotten  by the LORD God Almighty,  we need  to remember  that He has inscribed us  on the palms  of His hands.    When the nails were driven  into Jesus’ hands  at His crucifixion,  our sins  were nailed  to that cross.

God’s love for us  has been declared  since the beginning  of time,  and it was proven  when we were inscribed  on the palms  of Jesus’ hands.    If we ever doubt  God’s love,  we need  to remember  that Jesus’ hands prove  His faithful love  for each  and every one  of us.

When Thomas doubted  the power  and authority  of Jesus  to rise  from the dead  with a physical body  that still retained those nail inscribed hands,  our Lord reprimanded him  for his unbelief  in John 20:27-29,

Then He  [Jesus]  said  to Thomas,  “Reach here your finger,  and see My hands;  and reach here  your hand,  and put it  into My side;  and be not unbelieving,  but believing.”

Thomas answered  and said to Him,  “My Lord  and my God!”

Jesus said to him,  “Because you have seen Me,  have you believed?     Blessed are they  who did not see,   and yet believed.”

In the blessedness  of faith,  let us remember  God’s  promised  and unfailing love  for us,  as we think about  how we are inscribed  on the palms  of Jesus’  hands.     Love  put us there.

In love,  John reminds us  in John 20:31,

These have been written  that you may believe  that Jesus  is the Christ,  the Son of God;  and that believing  you may have life  in His name.

As we remind ourselves  of that faithful love,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     We are loved  so dearly  and will always remain  in Jesus’ hands.”

Love,
Margaret
