Mind Control

We’ve all heard the old saying,   “Garbage in,  garbage out”.     It simply points out that if we choose  to put garbage  in our minds,  we will soon  overflow  with garbage,  and  nothing but garbage  will come out  of our minds.   Phew!!!

Thank goodness,  the opposite  is also true.     When we choose  to put all sorts  of good things  into our minds,  then  we will overflow  with good,  and that good  will naturally flow  out of us.     The apostle Paul  puts it this way  in Philippians 4:8-9,

Whatever is true,  whatever is honorable,  whatever is right,  whatever is pure,  whatever is lovely,  whatever is of good repute,  if there is any excellence  and if anything worthy  of praise,  let your  mind  dwell  on these things.

The things you have learned  and received  and heard  and seen  in me,  practice these things;  and the God of peace shall be with you.

Paul is teaching Christians  that we need  to allow God  to guide  all of our thinking  by what we have learned  about our Lord’s love  and salvation,  so that  we can be changed  into true children of God,  who  will be able  to rest  in the peace  of God.

When we have stinky garbage  in our minds,  we are  in a continual,  agitated state  of unrest  —    suspicions,  hatefulness,   spitefulness,  jealousies,  greeds,  lusts,  lies, etc.     When all  of those things start  to control our minds,  we become  rather paranoid,  and actually  enslaved  into becoming more  and more egocentric  and dependent  on the garbage  of this world.

Our minds  can also be  a powerful origin  of help  for us  to regain  a positive outlook.    When we allow  the love  and salvation  of God  to give us the light  of His goodness  and salvation,  we will begin  to think  more and more purely,  as a free child of God  is meant  to think  and feel.

God has so much  He wants  to give us!     What a shame  that so many  waste their precious lives  groping around  in the garbage  of this world,  and never able  to find  the peace of God  that they long for.     If they would only look up  and see  that God  is so willing  —  and able  —  to freely  give them all they long for  —  and so much more.

We don’t have to  put up with less  than  the abundant riches  God wants  to give us.

So often,  we don’t  look up to God  because we’re afraid  of the opinions  of the people around us.     In looking for love,  we want  to be politically correct,  so that  others  will  “like”  us.     And yet,  we know  that being  politically correct  these days  is an awfully godless  way to be.    That is why Proverbs 29:25 teaches us,

The fear  of man  brings  a snare,
But  he who  trusts  in the LORD  will be exalted.

As much as  the world  wants  to scare us  into being  politically correct,  we will be  much more blessed  and at peace  when we stop  being afraid  of this world’s opinions.     Trusting in the LORD  and letting Him guide our minds  into holy living  will give us the peace  we long for.

Romans 12:2  strengthens  Christian living  by encouraging us  with this advice,

Do not  be conformed  to this world,  but  be transformed  by the renewing  of your mind,  that  you may prove  what the will  of God  is,  that  which is  good and acceptable  and perfect.

With minds renewed  in the love  of God,  we will be enabled  to say,  “Hallelujah!     I am free  in the love   and goodness  of God Almighty.”

Love,
Margaret
