Because We Trust

Because We Trust
Psalm 33:18-21
Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear Him,
On those who hope for His lovingkindness,
To deliver their soul from death,
And to keep them alive in famine.
Our soul waits for the LORD;
He is our help and our shield.
For our heart rejoices in Him,
Because we trust in His holy name.
The LORD God Almighty cares for and loves all people. In all His ways, He is constantly giving absolutely everyone pointers to His love, mercy, and salvation in Christ. Just as God loves everyone and desires their salvation, so He also wants us to love and desire the salvation of everyone. Therefore, Jesus teaches us in Luke 6:35,
Love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men.
While it is so true that God loves everyone, many still will not be saved because of their unbelief. God’s love for them will have been wasted because they will chose to be unbelieving and ungrateful in all their evil ways. God sees unbelief as evil because He has so wondrously and miraculously created and sustained all things and provided for our salvation. Since the proofs of God’s love and power are so obvious and true, it is sinful to disrespect the honor that belongs to the LORD alone.
It is also true that God has a very special love for all “those who fear Him“. That means all those who love and respect God as their Creator, Lord and Savior.
When we put our whole hope in the LORD’s lovingkindness towards us, and trust in Him because we believe that “God is love” ( 1 John 4:8 ), then God takes special care of us because of our faith. Those who trust in God will willingly “wait for the LORD” because they realize that only He is “our help and our shield”.
We cannot trust in ourselves or others because we all have weaknesses and failures. But, we can and should trust in God, because He alone is almighty and He loves us.
This trust that we have in the LORD and the holiness of His name will cause our hearts to rejoice in Him. That’s something to think about whenever we fall into the mode of not rejoicing in the LORD.
Every single time we start depending on our own strength and power to get something done, and everything seems to be falling apart, we should note that that is when we are forgetting to depend on our LORD and we are not rejoicing in Him.
We need to look at the truth of the matter and realize that it’s time we remember that our help is in the LORD only. God will keep His eye on us when we remember to “hope for His lovingkindness” and respect all that He has done for us in love.
As we keep looking to our LORD and Savior, we say, “Hallelujah! Our LORD is ever faithful in helping us and bringing us to salvation in His name.”
Love,
Margaret
