Like a Child

Like a Child
When the disciples tried to keep people from bringing their children to Jesus for His blessing, Jesus called for the children to come to Him and He taught the grownups some very important lessons that they used to know — but forgot. In Luke 18:16-17, Jesus said,
Permit the children to come to Me, and stop hindering them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it at all.
The child of God is rest assured in a number of truths — like knowing our heavenly Father is the almighty — our heavenly Father will surely save us — our heavenly Father is so happy to be with us — and our heavenly Father really rejoices over us with a most tender love.
Zephaniah 3:17 says it like this to assure even us of the truths of God’s love for us,
The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty;
He will save,
He will rejoice over thee with joy,
He will rest in His love,
He will joy over thee with singing.
Our heavenly Father loves us so dearly and little children know it. As we older children of God face our many daily challenges, we ought not to forget what we knew as a little child.
If we stubbornly keep on forgetting who we are ( We are the children of God. ), we will be putting ourselves in a position of denying our Lord. A little child would not think of denying his father. His knowledge of the truth is not swayed by the neighborhood bully. That’s how God wants us to be as we face our trials every day — remembering the truths of God’s might, saving power, love for us, and joy over us.
The apostle John remembered Jesus’ great love for the children and said this in his old age, in 1 John 3:1-2, to encourage us in our walk in faith,
See how great a love the Father has bestowed upon us, that we should be called children of God; and such we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.
Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we shall be. We know that, when He appears, we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him just as He is.
As a child of God, we long to grow up to be like our heavenly Father in love, joy, kindness, gentleness, mercy, peace, patience, goodness, faithfulness……. What a day that will be!
As we look to our Lord for guidance, and run to Him for help in our every need, may we always do so with the open trust and love of a little child.
Then in the safety of our heavenly Father’s arms, we lovingly say, “Hallelujah! O LORD, we are so glad You love us and care for us.”
Love,
Margaret
