I Will Both Lie Down and Sleep

Probably most everyone has known times  of stress  when they can’t sleep well.     We toss and turn  all night long,  thinking about whatever we are anxious about.     None of our anxious feelings  can ever solve  our problems,  and we know it.

King David experienced  all sorts  of distress  —  not the least of which  was the lying deceptions  of those trying  to take the kingdom  away from him.    King David knew  that he could not battle the lies  and deceptive work  of others  all by himself.     He realized  that only God Almighty  could win such battles  for him,  because God knows  all things  and the hearts  of everyone.     God alone has the power  to cause  “all things  to work together  for good  to those who love God,  to those  who are called  according to His purpose.”     (Romans 8:28)

Therefore,  it was vital  that David entrust his whole life  to the LORD,  while,  at the same time  serving the LORD  by making sure he was living righteously  —  just as our heavenly Father wants us  to live.

As David turned his life  over to the LORD’s care,  he sang  in Psalm 4:8,

In peace  I will both lie down  and sleep,
For Thou alone,  O LORD,  dost make me  to dwell  in safety.

David slept well  because he trusted the LORD  to take care  of all his needs.

As we turn our lives over  to the one and only LORD  of all  and live according to His word  in love,  we can rest assured  that God will cause all things  to work together  for our eternal good.

Resting in our Lord’s love,  we say,   “Hallelujah!     Lord,  thank You  for being with us  all our days  and nights.     Graciously lead us  to live  according to Your word.”

Love,
Margaret
