All Things Work Together for Good

By faith  in the love  of our Lord,  we weather all sorts of storms  in life.     A lifetime can experience devastations  that we never would have imagined  when we were young.     It’s a good thing  that we don’t know everything  in our future.

Whatever is in store  for our life,  there is something very sure  and stable  that will never change.     We can surely depend  on it.     Paul tells us about it  in Romans 8:28,

And we know  that God causes all things  to work together  for good  to those  who love God,  to those  who are called  according to His purpose.

Whatever happens to us  in this life  is not a freak mistake.     It is not an “accident”  that God was unable  to divert.    God is the Almighty  who allows us  to face these devastating challenges.     As we remember God’s word  and the faithful love  He has shown  for all His children  down through the ages,  we can rest assured  that He is faithfully  by our side  in every situation.

God knows how  to bring good  out of evil.     That is why  we can willingly say,  “Thy will be done.”     As we trust our Lord  to work all things  for our good,  He is working great things  in our hearts  that are of much more value  than anything  on this earth.

It is as Paul says  in Romans 5:3-5,

We also exult  in our tribulationsknowing  that tribulation brings about perseverance;  and perseverance,  proven character;  and proven character,  hope;  and hope does not disappoint,  because the love  of God  has been poured out  within our hearts  through the Holy Spirit  who was given  to us.

In other words,  God knows  what He is doing  when He allows something bad  to happen  to us.    That trial is allowed  to help us grow  in perseverance  —  always trusting  that the Lord will work all things out  in the end.

The perseverance  that grows within us  will enable us  to have a proven character  —  that we really do trust  in the Lord  in our deeds  —  not just  in glib words.

And then with that honest growth  in our spirits,  we will learn  to have a true hope  in our Lord  —  a hope  that is a strong faith  in the Lord,  because deep down  in our hearts  we really are trusting  in God’s love  for us.     God’s love for us  has become more than just words  in the Bible.     God’s love is known  in all its truth,  because the Holy Spirit  has been allowed  to work  in us.

God knows  what kind of challenge  challenges us  the most,  because He knows  our every thought  and feeling,  our every desire  and need.     And with the great depth  of His love for us,  God works out exercises  of faith  for us,  so that we can persevere  and learn  to grow  in faith.

All we need  to learn  to do  is trust God’s love  for us personally.

Each one of these trials  in our lives  is a temptation  to lose faith  in God’s love.    Therefore,  Paul says  in 1 Corinthians 10:13,

No temptation has overtaken you  but such as is common  to man;  and God is faithful,  who will not allow you  to be tempted  beyond what you are able,  but with the temptation  will provide the way  of escape also,  that you may be able  to endure it.

Such is the marvelous love  of God  that we can trust.    We may be faltering  and stumbling around,  but our heavenly Father  is closely watching  over us.     As we rejoice  in His care,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  thank You for being nearby  as we go through our challenges.”

Love,
Margaret
